I am a total sucker for all things personalised. I love buying unique gifts for my families and friends - especially when it's for their smaller people! I guess it's pretty likely, then, that I will end up purchasing quite a lot of little personalised bits for our little cherub.
I would certainly have gone out and bought a hand/footprint casting kit had a good friend not pre-empted me!! That's not to say that I'm not keen to have another go in the future as thus far my hubby and I have only managed to get imprints of Lily's teeny weeny feet (at just a month old).
Admittedly getting the imprints can be a messy affair. Mixing up the plaster of paris was all well and good but getting Lily to stay still was quite another. We tried getting her to put her hand in the mixture but all she did was close her fist, having covered her hand in the mixture. While I was wiping it off her hands, we decided to go for the feet instead! This was also none too easy and while we did eventually manage to get good-ish prints, Lily had wriggled around so much that we have the left foot print on the right and the right on the left!!
When the mixture had set, I used the kit's little paint pots to colour in the foot prints - in pink of course! Then it was a case of artistically adding her name and the month we had taken the cast. I guess it's fair to say that I am not going to be winning any art competitions anytime soon.
It may not be the most artistic of efforts but the print takes pride of place in our living room and as Lily has grown we have taken much delight in seeing just how much her feet have grown since that first month.
I will definitely invest in another kit - perhaps one less messy - and see how we fare then.
