Babytec Sleep Support
Our little Lily has always been a wriggler - was in the womb and has continued to be in the outside world! As adorable as her wriggling is, it's less so when it comes to putting her down to sleep. The moses basket was pretty good as keeping her pretty much cocooned and less able to roll but when it came to moving her into the crib which was that much bigger we soon became aware that we were going to have a problem.
On the first night we put her in the crib I woke to find her in some distress as she had rolled completely on her side and had her head jammed up against the bars. Not only did I have to contend with a very upset baby, because once she'd got jammed up against the bars she couldn't roll back over, but I was also conscious of the fact that it wasn't safe to have her rolling. As we all know it is recommended that babies lie feet to the bottom of the crib and on their backs. I remembered seeing on a baby programme a mum using some kind of boulder system in her crib to keep her little un on his back and so researched to find where I could find a similar product.
There are a few to chose from but this particular system offered a good price point as well as being quite flexible to use. The system comes in three parts essentially; two boulders, a little pillow (made of a breathable memory foam to lesson the risk of flathead syndrome) and a flat sheet onto which the boulders and pillow Velcro. The boulders are simply stuck into the right position for your baby, the pillow likewise and then you simply lay baby between the boulders. In essence she is prevented from rolling completely over, although not so much so that she feels imprisoned!!
The boulders have definitely prevented Lily from rolling in her sleep and as they stick onto a flannelette crib sheet it's not always necessary to use the flat sheet which comes with the system. The pillow we have had less success with and to be honest don't actually use this. It's quite small and as Lily likes to move her head to and fro she was forever falling off the pillow!!
All in all, well worth the money as it has given me peace of mind that Lily is in the right sleeping position at night and helped me, and Lily, get a better night's sleep!
