Cot Mobile

Lily's cot mobile

My Mum had told me plenty of times that when it came to putting me down to sleep nothing soothed me more than my cot mobile. The gentle lullaby would send me off into blissful sleep without fail. Obviously, then, getting one for my bundle of joy was an absolute must.

As with everything baby related some companies seem to charge a lot of money for hanging mobiles. This one, again found in a sale so at a good price point (you may be beginning to realise that I like a bit of a bargain!!), seemed to do the job perfectly. With four colourful velcro attached animals to catch Lily's eye and a pleasant lullaby tune (activated by a simple wind up method) to play as the animals gently moved round I figured I had done pretty well with my choice.

I hadn't, however, banked on Lily not really liking mobiles!! My husband and I would wind it up to help send a sleepy Lily to sleep and the result would be a wide awake Lily! We thought maybe the mobile would come into its own when it came to pacifying a crying Lily. All it did was make her cry more. There were admittedly a few occasions when she stared at the animals as they wizzed passed her, but they were few and far between. For the most part it just hung over the crib, looking pretty but serving no real purpose.

As Lily got bigger and her curiosity grew she found she could pull the animals off their velcro fastenings and once she did this they would promptly end up in the mouth for a good old sucking! Not really what we had intended for them!!

I guess it just goes to show that every little person is unique and has his/her own wants and needs!! The mobile will be making its way to a car boot sale in the not too distant future!!
