I guess my daughter stood a good chance of having sensitive skin as it runs in both of our families and as a child I suffered from eczema. Lily's skin became noticeably dry and in patches quite sore pretty early on. Her neck and back seemed to be particularly bad to begin with and so we made a trip to the docs to discuss the problem with one of the nurses at the surgery. Initially hydrocortisone cream was used as to take down the redness and once that had started to go down we were told to treat the affected area – and indeed any additional patches that might come up -with Epaderm.
Like vaseline in texture, the nurse explained that Epaderm had proved in helping eczema sufferers of all age groups. We have certainly noticed that it has helped with Lily's. While she does still have little patches that seem quite persistent – mainly on her arms and feet – the cream helps keep them at bay and prevents them getting any worse.
We apply the cream religiously every morning and evening to Lily and smother it on her after bathtime as this is when her skin tends to redden (although we also use a special bath lotion and avoid bubble bath at this stage). As Lily is now a very wriggly little madam, applying the cream can be a fun activity as she slides away from me or kicks her legs into me and smothers my clothes in the cream too!! Bear in mind that until the cream has soaked in baby will be slippery when handling so take special care when lifting her up or carrying her. If your little un is plagued with eczema then I would definitely discuss the possibility of giving this cream a go with your GP. It's got the thumbs up from us – and Lily!!!
A little note to add to this. Since writing this review Lily's skin is now much better. This is doubtless down to the fact that she is now on solids. We do still apply the cream from time to time but no longer on a daily basis. The pot is always to hand though just in case.
