Lily's chatter phone

I don't know how many years this phone has been in production but its retro look and feel continues to prove popular with mums and kids alike. Lily was given hers as a present for Christmas - in fact she was given two (one blue, one pink).

I guess children become fascinated with mimicking chatting on the phone because of the amount of time they see their mummies doing likewise and so I was pretty sure that Lily would like her new chatty phone(s).

The only problem with this product is that its retro look actually makes it a little outdated for the modern baby. The majority of households use cordless phones (even mobiles are now the main house phone) but the handset on this toy is connected to the main phone with a typical spiral cord. The cord is impossibly short. When Lily goes to say hello with the handset she ends up bashing the entire toy against her face! Plastic this product might be, but it can still hurt when little uns pick the phone up with excited force!! Then there is the phone dial. Dialling a number using an actual dial might have been the done thing in my childhood but now it's all about push buttons.

That said, the friendly face on this little phone, the way the eyes go up and down as the phone is pulled along, makes it a lovely fun toy.
