Most of my mummy chums have invested in mega blocks for their children when they have reached a certain age - generally just after their first birthday - and having seen how much fun they have had with them, I figured they were a must-have for Lily. There are a host of different Mega Blok sets to choose from, many tying into favourite children's tv characters. As In The Night Garden is one of Lily's faves, it was this set that was put on her santa 'wish list' this christmas (in other words a family member bought it!)
As well as a host of different coloured blocks of various shapes and sizes, the musical gazebo set, as its name suggests, comes with a gazebo like that featured in the children's show which plays the Night Garden theme tune when a button is pressed (Lily likes to press it over and over again and gets quite perturbed if mummy and daddy don't sing along!). Little Uns can also build their own Ninky Nonk train using pieces from the set. This particular collection also comes with little figures of the show's three main characters - Iggle Piggle, Upsy Daisy and Makka Pakka.
While Lily is still finding her way when it comes to actually building anything with the blocks, these three figures have become firm favourites and she often walks around the house with one in each hand. As I mentioned, Lily is still not quite au fait with building. When I dare to construct something on her behalf it is quickly disassembled! She has, though, started to put one brick on top of another, albeit briefly, and I am sure this interest will grow as Lily does. And the good thing is that as her interest levels grow in Mega Bloks I can add to the collection with more.
