Personalised Birth Plate

Lily's birth plate

I was keen to have a permanent record of the date and time our little girl was born, as well as her weight and doing so to do so within a lovely keepsake plate that I could put on display seemed an ideal solution. I was inspired to find a particular design, often referred to as traditional delft blue, as it was the self-same design which my mother and father had chosen for birth plates for me and my brothers when we were born.

Featuring the image of a nursery with a stork carrying the swaddled new arrival, the gold rimmed porcelain plate is personalised in the top panel with the baby's first and middle name and at the bottom with the date and time of birth and weight at birth. A nice little feature - one also replicated on my original birth plate - is that the grandfather clock in the foreground of the nursery picture is set to match the time of birth.

When it comes to personalised products you do expect to pay a little more but in all honesty I would say that this plate was pretty good value. It's such a lovely keepsake and will take pride of place in our home, much like mine does in my parents' display cabinet.
