Swinging Crib

Lily's swinging crib

When we first brought Lily home she was swamped in her Moses Basket - she looked so tiny in it - and so it seemed like it would be ages until the swinging crib my parents had purchased for her would come into play.

Certainly to begin with this lovely crib (purchased at a bargain price as it was an end of the line product) served as a somewhat expensive moses basket stand! It was only when Lily reached a few months old that we felt confident about moving her into the crib and even then, because she was such a wriggly little so-and-so, a sleep positioner was a must.

Made of sturdy wood and easy to construct (according to my hubby; I don't do such things!) the crib was a little smaller than some of those that we looked at which was perfect for us as Lily's first home was a one bed flat where space was a premium. As it came with a mattress (some don't so don't assume they all do) all we had to buy were fitted crib sheets, readily available in most baby stores.

Ironically despite asking my parents specifically to buy a crib with a swinging option, we never actually used this (sorry mum and dad!). To be honest, taking it in and out of locked position was a bit of a kerfuffle and we couldn't keep the crib in swing mode at night as we were worried Lily's baby monitor would pick up the movement of the crib, rather than her (this probably wouldn't have been the case but you know what it is like when you are first time parents with cots and cribs!).

Lily outgrew the crib at around the six month point and at this stage we moved her into her own room and into her nice big cot bed.
